New reception solution “Push-the-Button”

Screenimage Button Projekt

Visitor information system

06.07.2023 | Since last year, we have seen a noticeable increase in visitors at our office again. Many customers and prospects want to get a better impression on site after the years of online meetings, meet real people, and see our solutions live. A development that of course makes us happy — after all, there is plenty to show, and the view of Mount Pilatus is definitely a highlight.

However, since we do not have an actual reception desk, we faced the issue that visitors felt a bit “lost” when entering because they didn’t know exactly where to go. A solution was needed — and preferably one with a proper wow effect. Thus, the “Push‑the‑Button” project was born.
Together as a team, we developed ideas and selected a project team, which soon began working on the implementation. At the summer event, version 1 of the button was presented. We think the result speaks for itself.

Solution

A motion sensor detects when someone enters the door, triggering a spotlight that illuminates the pedestal with the red button. On the screen, the visitor is prompted to press the button. If the person is already registered, their personalised greeting appears; otherwise, a general greeting is shown and they are asked to wait briefly. At the same time, a signal sounds and a notification appears on the internal screens informing the team that someone is waiting.
The solution will be refined further over the coming weeks, especially the greeting sequence. In its current form, however, it already works wonderfully for “unmanned receptions.”

Process:

1. Define initial situation / problem statement as a team
2. Workshop in three groups for partial solutions
3. Role definition for the project team by management
4. Project team selected by the team (who is best suited)
5. Implementation including budget responsibility by the project team
6. Evaluation by the project team

No one from management was part of the project team. 😉

Conclusion

Within a very short time, our reception problem was solved while simultaneously creating a new Screenimage product that, with some adjustments, will soon be ready for the market. Feedback from the project team was consistently positive — all members enjoyed stepping into different roles and tackling new technical challenges (sensors, electronics, construction, etc.).
