Why is a website not displayed on the screen?

Problem: The entered website is not displayed on the screen. Instead, a white screen or an error message “The website cannot be displayed” appears.

Control:

First check the connection.

  1. Is there access to the Internet on the player (if the desired site is on the Internet)?
  2. Is there a connection to the service (e.g. internal websites)?
  3. Has the call to the website already worked once?
  4. Does this concern only one player or several?

Contact Screenimage support if your internal IT cannot help.

Why does the display stay black?

Reason 1: The player or the screen is not running.
Solution 1: Make sure the player is plugged in/powered on and the correct source is set on the screen.

Reason 2: The player does not have access to the screenPLAN server.
Solution 2: Check the network connection. Open Internet Explorer and enter the server URL. If the page does not load, there is a problem with the connection or the server.

Reason 3: The player has not yet downloaded all the data to display.
Solution 3: It may take a while for content to be displayed. Press CTRL + F3 on the player so that the display is reloaded

Digital Signage Glossar

Candela (Nits)

The luminosity of a display is indicated in candela. Sometimes the term “nits” is also used, which means the same thing. Digital signage displays have a luminosity of between 500 and 3,500 c/m², depending on the application.

Content

Content means content. Digital signage content is characterized by the fact that it briefly and concisely reproduces the most important information. All common media formats are available for this purpose (text, image, moving image).

Digital Signage

The term digital signage describes the use of digital media content that is displayed or played back using displays or projectors. This often involves the digitization of classic communication media such as posters and notices.

DooH

Digital out of Home is the collective term for digital outdoor advertising. In other words, digital signage as an advertising medium in public spaces (digital billboards).

Feed

Feed or data feed means a mechanism composed of structured, continuously updating data. The data is automatically transferred from a server to a client (digital signage player). Data feeds make it easy to integrate information into a system without the need for anyone to enter it manually. The most common feed formats are XML, JSON, CSV and TXT.

Full HD

Full HD ist eine Abkürzung für Full High Definition und bedeutet übersetzt „vollständig hochauflösend“. Es handelt sich dabei um eine Auflösung von 1920 × 1080 Pixel. Siehe auch (Ultra HD / 4K)It is a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. See also (Ultra HD / 4K)

GIF

GIF for Graphics Interchange Format is a graphics format for images. It allows a lossless compression of the images. It is used to store several (superimposed) individual images in a file, which are then played by web browsers as animations.

Infoscreen

Infoscreen is often used as a synonym for a single display within a digital signage system. In addition to the display, a functioning digital signage display requires a media player and the appropriate mounting. A digital signage system can consist of one or up to several hundred Infoscreens.

Display Technologies: LCD / LED / OLED

Currently, three image-generating technologies are available for displays: Liquid Crystal (LCD), Light Emitting Diode (LED) and Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED). Here is an overview of the differences.

LCD
Liquid crystals do not produce light themselves. Liquid Crystal Displays,LCDs, require a backlight. The spiral-shaped liquid crystals coil up to a greater or lesser extent depending on the current strength and let more or less light through accordingly. In this way, each pixel is transmitted as a gray value. However, polarized light is needed and thus polarization filters in front of the light source. For color, you need additional layers, the color filters. Because of the many layers, extremely thin displays are more difficult with this technology.

LED
LEDs or Light Emitting Diodes convert current into light, the brightness is proportional to the current intensity, the LEDs can directly generate a colored image. They are available in red, green and blue; with their superposition all other colors are formed. LED materials are crystalline; only under high temperatures and vacuum can thin layers of them be deposited on glass.

OLED
OLEDs, Organic Light Emitting Diodes, produce the colored image directly, just like LEDs. However, they are made of completely different materials than LEDs, based on carbon, which is why they can be manufactured in a completely different way than LEDs. The OLED materials dissolve in water or solvents and can thus be sprayed or printed onto a substrate. Since an OLED screen basically consists of a single layer, very thin displays are possible.

Loop

A loop is a sequence of any number of media contents (posts), which always starts from the beginning.

Media Player

A media player or digital signage player is a mini-PC that downloads the content transmitted over the network (assigned to the screen). Some providers also use the term client instead of player (in the context of a client-server setup).

Outdoor Displays

Screens for outdoor use are integrated in stelae / housings (kiosk solutions) as standard. The stele is there to protect the display from weather influences such as rain and snow. The whole system must also be cooled or heated depending on the outside temperature.

Professional Screen

Unlike consumer TVs, displays in the “Professional Line” are designed for continuous operation (24/7 or 16/7 depending on the application). They are better ventilated and have a higher brightness than normal TVs.

Proxy

A proxy is a communication interface in a network. A proxy works as an intermediary that receives requests and then connects to the other side via its own address.

RSS

RSS stands for Rich Site Summary or RDF Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication. It is an XML format and serves as a description language for metadata. RSS is mainly used for news that are updated frequently, such as a news ticker. Besides RSS our software also supports the following data sources: XML / JSON / HTML / CSV / TXT

Template

The word template means template or template. Depending on the purpose of the template, other input options are available to the user. The templates are configured so that contributions can be created as quickly and easily as possible and at the same time always correspond to the corporate design.

Touchscreen

Digital signage touchscreens are monitors that can be operated by touch. In this way, for example, data can be queried or even entered. Classic application examples are guidance systems, visitor registration, customer information systems, etc.

Ultra HD (4K)

UHD – Ultra High Definition stands for “extremely high resolution”. It is a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. Meanwhile, you also hear the term 4K more often, since it is a quadrupling of the total number of pixels compared to the Full HD standard (1920 x 1080 pixels).

VESA (Flat Display Mounting Interface)

VESA Flat Display Mounting Interface (FDMI) is a standard for mounting flat panel displays. Depending on the dimension and weight of the screen, other standards are used. The three most common are (VESA MIS-D, VESA MIS-E and VESA MIS-F.)

Therefore, when choosing the appropriate mount, make sure that both components (screen & mount) comply with the same standard. We will be happy to advise you on the choice of suitable hardware.

Videowall

Video wall, LED wall, LEDwall – refers to a large display surface for displaying digital content (images, videos, texts). For this purpose, several screens are coupled together so that they subsequently generate an image.
