20.03.2023 | The short answer is: whenever possible, absolutely both. Each tool offers advantages and disadvantages when it comes to engaging employees. By combining the app with Digital Signage screens, you leverage the strengths of both instruments and elevate your internal communication to a whole new level.
\r\nFirst, however, we compare the two media in terms of interactivity, reachability of all employees, and acceptance.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n\n

Interactivity<\/strong>
Digital Signage offers little to no interactive possibilities. Of course, there are touch displays, but these have the drawback that users are quite exposed, and only one or a few people can access the information at a time. Entering text via touchscreens is technically possible but rarely used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the app, on the other hand, employees can \u201clike,\u201d \u201cdislike,\u201d or \u201ccomment\u201d on posts. By allowing feedback or even actively encouraging it, you create an entirely new form of internal communication. This point clearly goes to employee apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reachability of all employees<\/strong>
At first glance, the app seems to have a clear lead here as well. Almost everyone carries their smartphone with them from early morning until late at night, meaning they always have access to the app. This is a key advantage, especially if your employees work from home or in the field. A quick glance at the smartphone is enough to stay informed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, even if it\u2019s supposedly just one click, you still rely on employees opening the app regularly. It is also often forgotten that in many industries \u2014 especially in production environments \u2014 smartphones are prohibited at the workplace (for safety reasons). Digital Signage screens can be installed in non\u2011critical areas (entrances, break rooms, etc.). Employees then absorb the information simply by passing by. In terms of reachability, the race seems to be evenly matched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acceptance<\/strong>
Not to be underestimated is the fact that many employees refuse to install a \u201ccompany app\u201d on their personal phones. While some see it as an intrusion into their private property, others even fear that the app might monitor them.
Screens, however, appear far less suspicious, because they can simply be ignored if desired. Although let\u2019s be honest \u2014 whenever a screen flickers somewhere, our eyes automatically drift towards it, and we notice the content being displayed, consciously or unconsciously. Here, the Digital Signage screen clearly has the advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To provide you with maximum flexibility, we decided to develop our own employee app. However, if you already use an app and would like to display that content on your screens, that\u2019s no problem. Using an API interface, this content can easily be integrated into our software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
