INITIAL SITUATION
The Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) is one of Switzerland’s leading universities of applied sciences. It comprises seven departments as well as the Swiss Federal Institute of Sport in Magglingen. Currently, the BFH operates 25 campuses in the cities of Bern, Biel, Burgdorf, and Zollikofen. The educational offerings include 31 bachelor’s and 25 master’s programs, as well as numerous continuing education courses, particularly interdisciplinary ones: BFH diagonal.
As early as 2008, we had the opportunity to equip the first BFH locations with our digital signage solution. The project has continued to grow steadily over the past few years. Today, 66 screens at 23 locations are operated using our software, with the system highly customized to meet the specific needs of each department.

The central application, which is used at all locations, displays room availability. At a glance, students, staff, and guests can see which events are taking place and where. To achieve this, different sources (MS Exchange, 3V ROOMS, TeamUp) have been integrated depending on the location. While some screens display only room occupancy, others show university information in addition (split screen), and there are displays that show exclusively university information. Much of the information is automatically integrated via feeds.
In the Departments of Health, Economics, and Social Work, the screens are used for direct interaction with students. QR codes are added to the displayed posts in addition to the content. Viewers scan these with their smartphones and can thus download additional information or fill out a registration form for a specific event. The “Feedback Wall,” which displays collected student feedback, rounds out the process. Another unique feature of the BFH solution is its multilingual capability. Posts are entered in multiple languages, and the on-site systems automatically display them in the desired languages (e.g., German and French in Biel and German in Bern).
« The modern digital signage system from Screenimage Systems AG serves as a valuable marketing platform for us and enables us to communicate in a particularly welcoming manner with our students, staff, continuing education clients, and guests. Thanks to the built-in content management system, managing the large volume of content is very simple and intuitive. »
