Root Municipality Digital Bulletin Boards

INITIAL SITUATION

When the municipal administration of Root moved to the D4 Business Village in Lucerne, it moved into new, state-of-the-art office space. At the same time, the former premises in the old town hall could be used for the school’s expansion.

However, the move away from the village center presented officials with the challenge of how to continue making official announcements and information accessible to the public without barriers. The traditional bulletin boards had proven effective, but putting up and taking down notices was time-consuming, and this effort would only increase in the future due to the greater physical distance.

SOLUTION

For these reasons, and in line with the ongoing shift toward digitalization, the municipality of Root decided to replace the traditional bulletin boards with modern digital signage screens. The solution consists of two outdoor screens: one on the village square across from the former town hall, and the second directly at the entrance to the new municipal administration building.

It was important to those responsible to preserve the character of the traditional bulletin board. This led to a layout with ten separate display areas. In this way, up to 10 different notices can be displayed at once without the need to change the image. This ensures that important announcements, such as resolutions, are visible at all times.

Most of the content is created manually. Certain categories, such as construction notices, are integrated directly as feeds. Additionally, QR codes allow residents to conveniently download further information or PDF documents to their smartphones.

With the merger of the municipalities of Root and Honau, a third screen was added. This screen displays some of the same content but is supplemented with specific information for the residents of Honau.
