INITIAL SITUATION
The railway operator BLS AG operates an extensive regional rail network, including the standard-gauge section of the Bern S-Bahn, parts of the Lucerne S-Bahn, and the car transport services at Lötschberg and Simplon. The car transport services provide a vital road link for traffic between the Bern and Valais regions and are the shortest route across the Alps.
BLS management set out to improve customer information and, consequently, service at the Goppenstein, Kandersteg, and Iselle loading stations. Key information includes departure times for the next car train, price displays, and specific updates in the event of disruptions or train cancellations.
Especially in the event of disruptions, it is crucial to inform passengers in their cars quickly and directly. At the Iselle IT site in particular, this form of real-time information is considered highly important, as there is no staff present on site.

2022SOLUTION
Outdoor displays have been installed at the ticket counters in Kandersteg and Goppenstein and at the loading ramp in Iselle IT. Upon arrival, customers can now see at a glance when the next train departs and how long the wait will be. The screens also display the distance to the restrooms and the kiosk, as well as the maximum permitted vehicle height per train. In the event of disruptions, all arriving customers can be informed immediately. To ensure the screens function smoothly, all hardware components—digital signage screens, players, and enclosures—are continuously monitored.
The outdoor digital signage solution has significantly improved communication with passengers using the BLS car transport service. By presenting essential information as soon as customers arrive, the system has helped noticeably reduce congestion and stress in the waiting areas.
In Kandersteg and Goppenstein, the displays in the waiting areas are also used to show advertising content and a live webcam view of the opposite side of the valley, enhancing both the customer experience and the informational value of the screens.
« We regularly receive positive feedback from customers. The screens stand out and are well-received. The same goes for our staff. The ability to communicate in real time is a major advantage, especially at our Iselle location. We thank Screenimage for the smooth implementation and excellent support. »
