When we go to the office, visit the hospital, go to the shopping mall or the airport, we are guided by signaling everywhere. Most of the time, we don’t even consciously notice these “everyday helpers”. At least not when everything is running smoothly and we can get to our destination quickly and easily. In addition to classic analog signaling such as overview boards, signposts or building signage, digital visitor information systems are increasingly being used. In this article, we would like to show you where digital signage is particularly suitable and where we see even more potential in the future.
Floor overview – clarity at a glance
Where can I find my destination? Floor overviews make orientation in office complexes, hospitals or public buildings quick and uncomplicated. Printed boards are often used, which have to be recreated every time a tenant changes, which involves a lot of administrative work: preparing print data, printing, coordinating deadlines and installation. Digital floor overviews, on the other hand, can be updated within seconds.
This argument is often quickly countered by the question of whether a screen and the power consumption required for this alone are justified. A fair point. But if you consider the entire life cycle – print production, disposal of old panels and the journeys made by the assembly team – the ecological footprint is quickly put into perspective.
E-paper – the ecological technology of the future?
E-paper has been on everyone’s lips again since ISE 2025. The reason for this is that, thanks to new technology, displays are now also possible in color and on larger screens. However, “large” currently only means 32-inch screens, which still limits the radius of use. However, we assume that there will be a lot more to come in the next few years. The advantages of e-paper, especially as a solution for floor overviews, are obvious. The devices only require electricity when changing images and can be battery-operated. This means that installation costs are kept to a minimum and power consumption tends towards zero. One battery charge lasts for several years. More about E-Ink.
Room management screens – No more searching for free rooms!
You probably know the situation: you want to hold a meeting spontaneously or need to discuss something bilaterally after a meeting. Now you need to quickly find a free and unreserved room. Digital room management screens show you at a glance whether a room is currently occupied or free and when the next booking is available. In most cases, the systems are interactive – rooms can be booked directly using a touchscreen. Thanks to integration with existing room management software, everything is automatically synchronized, which prevents double bookings.
Digital wayfinders – reach your destination with just a few clicks
These are interactive systems (touchscreens) that help you find your way around complex buildings. Typical locations are shopping centers, airports, hospitals, universities or office buildings. You can search for a tenant on the screen, for example, and are then shown the quickest route to your destination. The solutions can be expanded with additional functions, including virtual doormen. Cameras and badge issuance etc. can also be integrated.
Button project our “Digital Welcome Desk”
We prefer to use our own technologies directly in everyday life. However, a classic wayfinder or large signage screens would be somewhat oversized for our office space with just two offices, a kitchen and a meeting room. So we developed a creative alternative: a smart reception solution for reception desks without staff. Click here for the project.
But that’s not all! We have now even added an avatar to the system that greets visitors in a friendly manner and guides them through the initial contact. Curious? Then come along and test the solution live!
