INITIAL SITUATION
For more than 160 years, Zuger Kantonsspital has been committed to the health of the population of the Canton of Zug. Around 1,000 employees work across a wide range of departments. Each year, more than 10,000 inpatients and approximately 50,000 outpatients are treated.
In connection with the construction of the new hospital building in Baar, ways to improve communication processes were also explored. To this end, the information needs of the three stakeholder groups — patients, visitors, and employees — were analyzed. The objective was to develop a system capable of providing information to all stakeholder groups.

Information screens have been installed at the main reception and in waiting areas, displaying relevant information from the various departments, upcoming events, and public transport timetables.
Many of this information is also relevant for patients, which is why an information channel has been set up on the patient phones. This channel is additionally enriched with patient‑specific content, such as the current menu selection.
The highlight of the project is certainly the patient management system introduced in the emergency department. Thanks to this sophisticated system, medical staff can always see where each patient is currently located and what steps are still pending.
« The patient management system has proven to be very successful. Employees particularly appreciate the ability to gain an overview of the current status via remote access even before their shift begins. »
